Welcome new PeerCenterists

We've had a slew of new bloggers join PeerCentered over the past week. Welcome! Please introduce yourself in the comments on this post.

  1. Hiya. I'm Katherine, I'm in the WC tutoring class at BSU, fumbling my way through a new vocabulary, new faces, new ideas in general. I thought I'd be a natural peer tutor (I'm older, shy but friendly, lots of real world living and experience behind me) but now I'm not so sure about that. Right now I'm concentrated on trying to find a balance between talking a whole lot in class or not at all, since it seems like a microcosm of what our sessions will be like "upstairs." :)

  2. Hello to all.

My name's Alisha. I'm not new to the BSU WC or to Peercentered, of course, but I thought that I'd formally introduce myself to all the upcoming consultants.

After looking over the schedule, it looks like I'll be primarily working with Jacob and Nate, but I'm sure that I'll get the chance to meet all the new-comers--hopefully, sooner than later. If I see a new face, I'll make sure to say "HI!"

Katherine: Don't dwell on the new vocabulary too much. It can all seem overwhelming. Just go with the flow, be yourself, and participate as much as you're comfortable with, and you'll do great. I'm sure of it.

Good luck to all and--most importantly--HAVE FUN! See you 'round the center...

  3. Hello all-
I'm Bruce. I'm new to tutoring and the Writing Center at Boise State. I have a lot to learn about, well, everything.

  4. Hello, I'm Eric. I just started in the Writing Center Tutoring class at Boise State, and I'm currently in training to be a consultant. I transferred here after two years of college in Oregon, and I've been in Idaho almost a year now. I'm enjoying becoming a part of the writing center

  5. Hi guys,

My name is Megan Pottorff (soon to be Whittington if I can ever get my lazy newly-wed self down to the social security office). I'm new to the Writing Center, and I'm taking the 303 course. I'm excited to get started as a counselor, and I think it's great that we can spend some time "observing" before we actually dive in. There's nothing terribly interesting about me that anyone would want to know...when I grow up I want to teach high school Psychology and/or English. Dorothy Parker and Nancy Drew are my heroes (and yes I am lame enough to admit that on a public blog). I also have a cat named Biggi Shorty, but you can call her Wanda. I hope I'll make a good writing consultant when the time comes, and I'm really enjoying getting to know everyone at the Writing Center!

    Tchau!

    Hello,
Phillip Bode here to introduce all of you dying to know that I am also enrolled in the Boise State 303 course. I am greatly looking forward to working in the Writing Center with both writers and consultants alike.
    Cheers.

  7. Hello everyone,

My name is Susan. I have been on and off campus now for about 20 years. I got married, had kids, stopped going to school for awhile, got a job--all those things that kept me from taking college seriously. I am now back on campus going back to school part time majoring in English with a writing emphasis. I, too, am older (but I wouldn't say wiser). I am now a single mom (I am widowed) of four girls, ages 15, 10, 9, and 6 (almost 7). Yes, life is never dull at our house! Still, I trudge onward.

I, too, am glad that we get to observe consultations before being turned loose on our own. And the mock consultations in 303 are fun, even though they are a little intimidating. I

I am looking forward to working in the Writing Center. What a great opportunity!

    Hello!
My name is Jenny and I am taking English 303. I’m a transfer student from CSI, so not only am I new to the writing center, but I am also new to BSU. I look forward to being a writing center consultant, although I think I will make a lot of mistakes. I hope I will get better with experience!
I feel like I should put some sort of personal info here, so… I’m a Capricorn. I like calculator watches and Black-Capped Chickadees! I have a cat with only eye named Anne Bonny. (Like the pirate!)
I think that’s all. Let’s all do our best!

  9. Welcome aboard, Jenny.

Just in case there is some confusion: we're not all at Boise State. I, for example, am at Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah. I coordinate the Student Writing Center there.

  10. Well,
I'm Gloria, and I'm a third year consultant at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. We just got a new director, and she wants us to research ideas for our WC. She suggested we join this blog to get ideas.

  11. Yup another BSU 303 student.
    The name is Lizzy.
I'm an English Major with a Writing emphasis. I feel like the is the right place for me. :)

Writing is a passion of mine, and I hope to make a career out of it.
I have no idea what I want to do with my life.
But I would like to enjoy the ride while I'm here.

    That's all!

oh- yes, I have a tattoo of a cupcake.

    The End.
